Character Name: Tikal

Character History:
Tikal the Echidna, daughter of Pochacamac, was born over 8000 years before Sonic's time. Much of that era's history has been lost, not even Tikal herself remembers her past. But there's one thing we know for sure:
The Echidna and the Drakon Empire were at war.
The Drakon Empire, which had come from another world, wanted the Echidna's sacred emeralds, they were the perfect vessel to store their unstable Chaos Energy within. The Echidna would not allow this, acting on a vision Pochacamac had, Tikal used the reclaimed emeralds, now imbued by Chaos Energy, to summon a great hero from the future to help them, Sonic the Hedgehog. The attempt didn't go quite to plan however, as while Sonic was brought to the past, both he and Tikal were teleported into the path of a Kohenyu stampede. Luckily Sonic was as fast as ever, and managed to get both himself and Tikal out of harms way, although he wasn't very pleased about being summoned as he had been in the middle of fighting a watery creature called Chaos. (But we'll talk more about him later.)
Tikal showed herself to be a well meaning, but slightly prideful when a Drakon fighter showed up. She tried to tell Sonic to leave the fight to one of the Echidna, Knuckles. Knuckles was a good fighter, but Sonic had fought the Drakons before and knew their weakness. Knuckles was trying to catch the Drakon alive, but Sonic interrupted by going for what seemed to be a killing blow. And it would have been, if the Drakon's didn't have a robotic body. Knuckles was annoyed with Sonic's grandstanding and confused by Sonic knowing who he was when they had never met before.
The group returned to the echidna home in Megaopolis City, where Tikal brought Sonic to Pochacamac. However, they soon came under attack by the Drakon. Tikal hurried upon her father's orders to bring in the Drakon fighter Sonic had defeated to negotiate with the Drakon Empire. But Megaopolis City was overrun by Drakon soldiers. In the battle the Chaos Energy imbued sacred emeralds, The Chaos Emeralds*, were struck by an energy beam, causing the captured Drakon Prosecutor to be exposed to a massive amount of Chaos Energy, transforming the prisoner into the very creature Sonic had been fighting in the future! Chaos the destroyer.
Tikal knew this would be the beginning of the Great War she and her father had foreseen. She tried asking Sonic who won the war, asking Sonic if the echidna were alive in his time, but he avoided the question and attacked Chaos instead. But the fight was going poorly and Sonic was about to be killed by the changed Drakon. Tikal and Pochacamac returned Sonic to his own time to save him. This worked out to the advantage of the Echidna as well, as using the Chaos Emerald's power weakened the newly form Chaos enough for the Echidna to be able to drive him out of Megaopolis City. Tikal worried about Sonic's well-being but Pochacamac told her that it was the only way to save him.
While that was the first time Tikal faced Chaos, it was not the last. In fact it was Tikal herself who sealed Chaos away, at the cost of trapping her own spirit with him. For 8000 years Chaos tormented Tikal's spirit until Grimer, Robotnik's assistant, freed Chaos in an attempt to please the doctor. Sonic fought Chaos, lost, and was called to Tikal's time completing the time loop. When he was sent back to the future he arrived in the middle of a huge fight between Chaos, The Freedom Fighters, Knuckles, Ebony and Super Sonic. Sonic jumped into the fight just in time to fight Chaos again, but it was Super Sonic**(Who was, for the moment, a separate entity from Sonic) who defeated Chaos at the cost of his own sanity by absorbing all the Chaos Energy the creature, Chaos had. Unfortunately this rendered Super Sonic a even bigger threat than Chaos was. And the only way to stop him was to have Ebony merge the two Sonic's back together. However during all the fighting and transferring of energy, Tikal's spirit was placed in Sonic's body. And no one knew.
Tikal remained dormant inside Sonic in the immediate aftermath of the battle with Chaos. Her presence was felt however, when Sonic and Porker Lewis were working together with Ebony to try and find the floating island. The island had crashed into the ocean after being attacked by Chaos, but it was only now that they'd had chance to look for it. While on the sunken island Sonic was exposed to a large amount of Chaos Energy two times. At the first exposure Sonic felt a calm presence instead of a raging Super Sonic, upon a second exposure Sonic started to transform into Super Sonic despite the calm Presence which, of course, was Tikal who used the Chaos Energy to form her own body.
There was, however, someone else on the island. Dr Zachary, who had been in hiding on the island when it had been sent into the sea by Chaos. Upon finding the transforming Sonic and newly reincarnated Tikal, Zachary grabbed the girl's staff and tried to use it to control Super Sonic. While it stopped Super Sonic from killing them all, and inadvertently allowed Sonic to regain control, it did not help Zachary win the fight. The rouge Echidna was forced to retreat as the island was returned to the skies. All seemed well, and Knuckles was ecstatic to not only have his island back but to get to meet a new Echidna who was not Dr Zachary. However Tikal and Knuckle's reunion would not be a pleasant one. She had suppressed the pain and fear from being trapped with Chaos for so long, but now it was starting to cause her mind to shut down as she suffered flashback after flashback. There was only one way to end her suffering before she broke completely. And that was to erase her memories. Knuckles argued against this. But in the end it was the only way.
Knuckles tried to look after Tikal, but he was frustrated by her, she was right there, the key to everything he had ever lost, and she couldn't tell him anything. In fact it was him who had to explain things to her, even showing her the ruins of Megaopolis City failed to jog her memory at all. It was during this time that Rouge the bat attack the island and Knuckles was forced to warp the Chaos Emeralds to the Special Zone to stop the bat stealing them. Leaving Tikal behind on the island with Porker Lewis. He returned with both the Chaos Emeralds and a prisoner, Dr Zachary, however this did no improve anyone's mood as Zachary was dangerous and liked tormenting Knuckles with mind games. Making him more short tempered than usual.
Tikal tried to find her memories again on her own, but while mediating all she found was disturbing warnings and taunting from spirits about a god of death. Which was only the beginning of something terrible. She tried to warn Knuckles but he wouldn't listen his frustration causing him to snap at her driving her away in tears. Porker helped smooth things over and when they started getting reports of entire zones dying away the pair went to investigate. But all they found were messages about Vichama, the echidna's god of death, and how he was coming home. Upon their return they found that a great temple had risen up on the island. A temple to the returning Vichama, who had indeed come home.
The pair crept into the temple and the spirits spoke to Knuckles begging him to release them, tempting him with answers to his past. Tikal begged him not to and, thankfully, he listened. However Vichama would have want he wanted no matter what, he possessed Tikal and made her release the spirits instead. What followed was a running battle between Knuckles and the lost spirits of his own people. It was all Tikal could do to keep up, until Vichama vaporised Knuckles right in front of her. Tikal could do nothing but run and hide. What could she do, alone, against a death god and his army of spirits?
As she hid alarms blared across the island and she saw the Guardian robots who had been helping repair the island all abandon their duties and head for an unknown location. She followed them and found herself in a room that not even Knuckles knew about, there the robots operated a machine with a large crystal. To her shock Knuckles stepped out of the crystal.
This had been how Knuckles had survived 8000 years, every time he died the robots brought him back. But while the island had been in a state of disrepair, the process had partly failed costing Knuckles his memories. Yet this time Knuckles learned something, while he was dead he had seen Vichama's memories, and learned how to strip the death god of his immortality. Vichama and Knuckles had been bound together in the past, as long was one was immortal so was the other. And So, Knuckles shattered the crystal that had brought him back to life. Vichama was enraged, and was so hell bent on killing Knuckles again, he had forgotten about Tikal, who used her own powers to call upon Vichama's army of the dead, to attack and kill the now mortal death god.
After that, dealing with Dr Zachary seemed easy, but Knuckles was not unaffected by what he had learned. And when Knuckles saw that Robotnik was back, instead of fighting, his turned to hide. The chaotix, Tikal and Porker however were able to talk him around and, piloting the island together they decimated Robotnik's air forces. Ever since then Knuckles had been co-ordinating with Amy and Gun to fight against Robotnik and his new vast army. Tikal helping where she can be it by piloting the island or watching over the emeralds with Porker.
But she found herself wishing she could do more, she was in limbo, not remembering her past, and not understanding this strange future she had found herself in.
Until that was, she woke up in Nautilus.
*This is also the origin of the Master Emerald which in STC lore is the strongest Chaos Emerald instead of being a different Emerald that can control the others (The Grey Chaos Emerald is the one that is used to control the others in emergencies)
**Sonic and Super Sonic had been split into two beings prior to the Chaos arc. Super Sonic had been trying to live peacefully with Ebony while Sonic had been trying to hunt him down.
Character Personality:
Before Tikal had her memory erased she was a well meaning, but prideful girl. She wanted to save her people from war and thought it would happen just because she had faith in her people, and in the fact they were in the right. She told Sonic not to worry when they were attacked by a lone Drakon fighter because she believed Knuckles could easily take him out. She was proud as she showed Sonic around the Echidna capitol, and boasted about her father's role as leader. But she was never rude or belittling, just excited to show Sonic around before asking him for help. When she first resurrected herself in the future she believed Sonic's far fetched warning that he was going to turn into some kind of demon (Super Sonic) and tried to take action to stop it. And while she was taken off guard by Zachary, she didn't make the situation worse by panicking.
After Tikal had her memory erased a lot of that confidence was gone. She was lost in time, her past forgotten and the future she had found herself in was strange and scary. Tikal was isolated on an island in the sky with only Knuckles and Porker Lewis for company. It was difficult at first, Knuckles was frustrated with Tikal's inability to remember her past and while Porker was much more approachable she didn't understand his science. So even while she wasn't truly alone she was still extremely lonely, and unsure of her place in the world.
The confidence of her past still shines though if given a chance however. While she had been driven to the point of tears trying to find out who or what Vichama was and Knuckles refusal to listen to her, once they had the key to defeating him it was her who called upon Vichama's own army to deal the final blow. And when Knuckles came up with the plan to trick Dr Zachary Tikal played her part perfectly waiting until the last possible moment to make her move even as Zachary threatened her life. Her faith those around her showed through when she helped Knuckles with his own crisis of confidence after finding out the lengths their people had gone to make sure there would always be a guardian of the floating island. Reminding him of what would happen if there wasn't one.
She's also slowly adapting to life in the future, she's friends with Amy Rose which would only be possible via video link, and when Robotnik launched his global assault against Mobius Tikal may have looked on worriedly, allowing the Chaoix, who knew more about the situation, to make the argument for Knuckles to become proactive, but once he had made that choice she helped pilot the island and fought just as hard as everyone else.
Tikal is still a lonely girl, an isolated girl, struggling to adapt to her new world and those around her. But she's trying her best, adapting, refusing to give up, and, while she is a little more cautious, she's still just as stubborn as any other echidna.
Powers and Abilities: Tikal is a seer, like her father and is able to have visions of the future and important events. (I will be making a permission post for this) as well as Ghosts. She is also able to manipulate Chaos Energy, which is how she brought Sonic to the past.

Good morning Nautilus, my name is Tikal. I'm sorry for bothering you, but I have an important question.
I'm a seer and in my own world I would receive messages and warnings from spirits. [Tikal's calm expression turned worried.] But I haven't seen any here. Do the spirits of the awakened who die here return to their own world?
Because if that is not the case there maybe something very very wrong going on and we need to find out what.
[Her face had turned from worried to serious, but now she hesitated, she'd spoken to friends over a radio back home, but how did you end a transmission that wasn't a call to a friend?]
Uh... Thank you for listening.
[Tikal turned off her network link with a sigh of relief. How does Amy and Tail talk to the whole world like that?! It's so strange!]
Third Person:
Tikal had never been to a beach.
Wait that wasn't quiet true, Tikal could not remember having ever been to a beach. She had seen the ocean. She and Knuckles had flown over it while investigating the desolation Vichama caused when trying to return to Mobius. But she had never seen it up close.
Which was why she thought the beach was the perfect place to try this. Somewhere she'd never been before, to try something she'd never done before. Bending.
She'd been practising, of course. Listening to the advice of others, watching their demonstrations. She understood the concept, but the actuality of it still alluded her. But if she could control the Chaos Emeralds enough to bring Sonic to the past she could use the Chaos Energy here for bending. Now if only she could remember how she did it.
Tikal sat down cross-legged on the beach, her staff across her lap as she closed her eyes and focused. She could feel the sand under her, smell the salty air, hear the waves washing in. Felt the tingle of Chaos Energy though her fur…
Tikal snapped her eyes open, the memory of the Emerald Chamber, and Chaos Energy fading away. There was so much on the island you stopped noticing it. But there wasn't any here at all. Tikal chuckled to herself.
“I'm making the same mistake Knuckles did.” She murmured. Just because it was Chaos Energy didn't mean there was any connection to her world, or her past. It wasn't the Chaos Energy she knew, it was just energy to be tapped into.
Tikal started her mediation again, focusing on energy, any kind of energy all around her rising up from below surrounding her and waiting for her to reach out and grasp it.
Something clicked inside her and she opened her eyes, surprised by what she saw. There were little glowing motes of light. They faded out as she stared but she knew. She had done that. She had bent them!

Tikal had never been to a beach.
Wait that wasn't quiet true, Tikal could not remember having ever been to a beach. She had seen the ocean. She and Knuckles had flown over it while investigating the desolation Vichama caused when trying to return to Mobius. But she had never seen it up close.
Which was why she thought the beach was the perfect place to try this. Somewhere she'd never been before, to try something she'd never done before. Bending.
She'd been practising, of course. Listening to the advice of others, watching their demonstrations. She understood the concept, but the actuality of it still alluded her. But if she could control the Chaos Emeralds enough to bring Sonic to the past she could use the Chaos Energy here for bending. Now if only she could remember how she did it.
Tikal sat down cross-legged on the beach, her staff across her lap as she closed her eyes and focused. She could feel the sand under her, smell the salty air, hear the waves washing in. Felt the tingle of Chaos Energy though her fur…
Tikal snapped her eyes open, the memory of the Emerald Chamber, and Chaos Energy fading away. There was so much on the island you stopped noticing it. But there wasn't any here at all. Tikal chuckled to herself.
“I'm making the same mistake Knuckles did.” She murmured. Just because it was Chaos Energy didn't mean there was any connection to her world, or her past. It wasn't the Chaos Energy she knew, it was just energy to be tapped into.
Tikal started her mediation again, focusing on energy, any kind of energy all around her rising up from below surrounding her and waiting for her to reach out and grasp it.
Something clicked inside her and she opened her eyes, surprised by what she saw. There were little glowing motes of light. They faded out as she stared but she knew. She had done that. She had bent them!
